Talonfoot walked quietly up to the peaceful valley. Stopping, she lifted her head, breathing in the clean air. It was no longer foggy now, since it was long past dawn. The stars twinkled brightly in the black sky. Talonfoot looked around, hazel eyes flashing, for her apprentice.

Talonfoot nodded and swiped a tongue over her lips. "Greetings, Tempestpaw. Today you will learn the proper hunting crouch." Swiftly, Talonfoot crouched into the position for hunting a mouse.

He crouched. He was a little lopsided, and he was almost lying on the ground.

Talonfoot's hazel eyes shone with amusement. She went into the perfect position. "The hint is to pretend you were creeping on your littermates. Put more weight on your back legs so you can be silent. Be precise with your spring, and balance yourself so you don't make a fool of yourself."

He took a deep breath, collected himself. He went into the crouch. It was a little unbalanced, but he silently, staggering slighty, made his way forward. THe he perpared himslef, and pounced. His pounce was a little noisy, but other than that it was oaky.

If you say so... he muttered dubiously. He got up, sook himself off, and tried again. On the fourth practice, he lost his balance and fell on his face. He rolled over and sneezed at the roused dust.

"Okay, get up, you great lump." the tan she-cat mewed good-naturally. "You have a good position. It just needs a tad more work. Here's the bird crouch, and the rabbit crouch." she demonstrated a few times and explained the tactics. "Squirrels are the same as mice, but they can listen a bit more, so you have to be quicker. Got it?"

He frowned, and bit his lip determinedly. He did them right. For the most part. He was balanced, but moving forward was difficult for him.
